the first station building in town centre, approximately @ current location, wooden hut, many buildings in wolfsburg in town’s days. shortly after establishment fell dilapidated condition , served place forced labourers volkswagen factory sleep @ night. hut no bigger small warehouse , consisted of waiting room. in contrast present station building, temporary building north of railway tracks, next mittelland canal near volkswagen factory. today, station building located south of tracks on willy-brandt-platz.
after second world
the state of station did not improve during second world war; city manager dr. dahme described in 1947 in letter reichsbahndirektion (railway division) of hanover follows: our station miserable shack, acceptable needs of bavarian mountain village, under no circumstances recognised railway station go-ahead city ... desolate, temporary war state, however, lasted until 1957.
the different views of vw factory, deutsche bundesbahn , city on site of new station delayed start of construction considerably. vw factory pressed start of construction project, because in 1950s more 5,780 people commuted work in wolfsburg every day. finally, after agreement reached on station’s location, construction started on 6 march 1956. little later, taken provisional operations, not functional until beginning of timetable summer 1957. new building officially opened federal transport minister hans-christoph seebohm on 26 august 1957.
later wolfsburg train station handled interzonal traffic between west germany , east germany; wolfsburg last stop before inner german border. next stop oebisfelde in east germany. platform premises used traffic still preserved.
