grps offers large selection of school choices, including neighborhood, theme, center of innovation, special education, , charter. neighborhood schools provide students traditional education. located throughout city, these schools open students living within specific attendance area. pilot programs in select neighborhood schools working improve connection between neighborhood residents , local school.

theme schools take traditional curriculum , apply theme create unique curriculum. examples of themes available @ grps include environmental science, arts , music, global studies, leadership, montessori, international baccalaureate, , more. in many grps theme schools, students experience place based learning , thematic extracurricular activities. of theme schools, 4 require students test-in. city high middle school, 1 of test-in schools, consistently ranks top performing school in west michigan. additionally, ranked among top schools in state u.s. news & world report, , washington post.

centers of innovation public-private partnerships offer students rigorous academics along opportunities connect professional mentors. furthermore, centers of innovation offer job shadowing , internships,as potential earn college or trade school credits or career certification prepare in-demand careers.

grps provides center-based special education services students throughout kent intermediate school district (kisd). students qualify these services through iep team process. additionally, grps has 1 charter elementary school, grand rapids child discovery center. schools may offer services english language learners; community schools social, health, , mental health services; all-day preschool; , all-day kindergarten.
