12 st james square two-storey, listed building. while facade of 18th century, original house believed older. building has slate roof , stucco exterior.


19 st james square, burton house, 19th-century, listed building. three-storey building has pebbledash (roughcast) exterior , operates guest house.

ebberley house (pictured above , below) recorded @ 23 st james square in @ least 1 document. grade ii listed building, right of dispensary. record held royal commission on ancient , historical monuments of wales indicates mid 19th century painting shows pair of double gabled, 17th century houses @ location. current exterior appears of 19th century, stucco on brick. entrance left features round headed doorway fanlight , six-panelled door. right of entrance, there large, tripartite window. cast iron railings present. house operates bed , breakfast.


25 st james square 19th-century, listed building. has three-storey, two-bay elevation , pedimented doorway.


33 st james square (pictured below) has alternate address, 33 whitecross street. grade ii listed house of 18th century. while house 3 storeys @ front elevation, rear has two-storey elevation. there circa 1900 canted bay right of entrance, has six-panelled door.


the old nag s head (pictured above , below) @ st james square , old dixton road 19th-century building incorporates remnants of east gate, dixton gate. gate otherwise demolished , replaced turnpike gate on old dixton road. medieval portion of tower gate red sandstone. half-round tower of unpainted sandstone projects north gable of building. remaining portion of inn painted. roof of welsh slate , there red brick chimneys.


the dixton gate or east gate (pictured below , in map above) @ st james square , old dixton road represents standing remains of monmouth s medieval town walls , gates other monnow bridge gatehouse. listed cadw, incorporated old nag s head described above. red sandstone tower gate has battered base.


the old toll house or dixton gate turnpike @ 16 old dixton road , square listed building. toll house positioned on left side of road, canted end facing toward street. 19th-century turnpike toll house has welsh slate roof , painted. replaced toll house on new dixton road after new street laid out in 1837.
