sex , gender differences
this model can applied sex , gender differences. fuegen , colleagues presented study 2 different universities subjects instructed review job applicants , judge competence level job. each applicant either male or female, single or married , had no children or 2 children. strikingly, both male , female parents judged less competent job childless applicants. also, gender standards shifted in evaluation of applicants. male parents judged more leniency childless males , women children. displays notion performance male not equivalent constitutes performance female.
measuring stereotype accuracy
in measuring stereotype accuracy, researchers assume assessments stable across time , situation. however, research based on shifting standards model shows opposite, stereotypes unstable , depend largely on how participant chooses reference point making assessment. therefore, rating scales more subjective many researchers assume, , many ratings depend on whether participant chooses rate stereotypical act either within or between groups.
