after completing expedition, bodmer returned germany prince maximilian, traveled france. in paris had many of paintings expedition (81 in total) reproduced aquatints. prince had these images incorporated book of expedition, first published in german in koblenz reise in das innere nord-amerika in den jahren 1832 bis 1834 in twp volumes 1839 1841. english translation, maximilian prince of wied’s travels in interior of north america, during years 1832–1834, published in london in 1843-1844.


bodmer moved permanently barbizon, france, , became french citizen. recorded jean-charles bodmer, went charles bodmer . became member of barbizon school, group of painters specialized in landscapes , works featuring animals. worked in variety of genres: painting, etching, wood engraving , illustration. among well-known works period la foret en hiver (interior of forest in winter), exhibited @ salon 1850 in paris. painted @ fontainebleau forest. bodmer made engraving of painting, , reproductions popular in 1860s. impressionist claude monet later painted same trees, titling painting bodmer oak. scene subject of numerous photographs in 1870s.
