in 1973, jackson joined monaro folk music society s bush dance band colonial experience. @ time, there increased interest in traditional folk dance in australia band played regularly @ woolshed dances , weddings. never recorded among bands invited test acoustics of concert hall in sydney opera house before officially opened.


pageant

jackson founded 6-piece cappella group pageant in canberra, australia late in 1973, first performance taking place @ wagga wagga folk festival. formed sing christmas carols, pageant rapidly expanded singing songs gathered from, , inspired by, english bands steeleye span, watersons, copper family , others. pageant recorded 1 self-titled album (pageant) in 1975 , played numerous festivals before disbanding after last performance @ 1976 australian national folk festival.


the higgins municipal bush band

jackson’s next band, higgins municipal bush band, performed on national television within twenty minutes of first meeting. part of publicity 1975 australian national folk festival, members of band had arrived separately @ tv studios dance band failed show. so, hastily grabbed instruments, invented name , performed if long established band. once formed, band performed weekly several years despite living in towns spread across 1000 km (gosford, nsw; canberra, act; steiglitz, vic).
