killarney secondary school opened on september 29, 1957, beginning students grades 7–10 , 1 wing (a-wing). teaching staff consisted of 52 members under direction of principal tom alsbury. grade 11 added following year, , grade 12 year after that, first class of senior students graduating class of 1960.


at time of opening, school surrounded vacant land areas east , south beginning see development. killarney continued grow area south of 49th avenue matured. november 1961 saw addition of new wing building included auditorium , stage (b-wing). on 6 years later in december 1967, d-wing completed, expanded , improved existing science , industrial education facilities. in 1970s, 7 portable classrooms placed on grounds accommodate on 1,700 students enrolled time (construction of neighbouring secondary school had been delayed). within decade, enrollment reached 2,000 , has remained around number since. recent addition c-wing, new entrance, foyer, 21 new classrooms, new band-room, , state of art music lab.
