in 1602 manor of avon tyrrell sold descendant john tyrrell bennett wynchecombe , giles tooker, sold sir john webb, 1st baronet (d.1680), of odstock, wiltshire (created baronet in 1644), son of sir john webb, knight, of odstock , of great canford, dorset, second wife catharine tresham, daughter of sir thomas tresham, of rushton, northamptonshire. descendant sir john webb, 5th baronet (d.1797) sold edward buckley batson, banker, , stanlake batson. heir of stanlake batson sister anne batson, wife of henry fane (1739–1802), mp, of fulbeck hall, lincolnshire, second son of thomas fane, 8th earl of westmorland (1701–1771). avon tyrrell inherited second son rev. edward fane, , passed eldest son lt col. henry hamlyn-fane (1817–1868), mural monument in clovelly church, married susan hester hamlyn-williams, heiress of clovelly in devon, , adopted additional surname hamlyn . in 1850 lt col henry hamlyn-fane drew picture of avon tyrrell manor tyrrells ford country inn , hotel in avon. name avon tyrrell can seen in bottom right hand corner of picture.


in 1912 avon tyrrell property of 1 of daughters miss eveline harriet hamlyn-fane, , passed eveline s sister constance hamlyn-fane, wife of john manners-sutton, 3rd baron manners (1852–1927). lady manner s childless sister christine hamlyn had inherited clovelly, , had intended bequeath eldest niece mary christine manners, unexpectedly died @ age of 17. left instead mary s younger sister betty constance manners, wife of arthur asquith, 3rd son of prime minister herbert henry asquith, 1st earl of oxford , asquith (1852–1928). 3rd baron manners won 1882 grand national owner, trainer , rider of horse seaman, triple feat won large sum wager, , in 1891 used proceeds rebuild avon tyrrell house, design of architect w. r. lethaby. house grade listed building considered 1 of archetypal arts & crafts buildings. eldest son francis manners, 4th baron manners (1897–1972) inherited avon tyrrell. requisitioned government during world war ii , family decided not return after war (in 1968 residence of 4th baron nearby tyrrell s ford, christchurch, hampshire). in 1949 donated 4th baron charitable trust, national association of girls clubs , mixed clubs . in 2014 still in use headquarters of uk youth, national youth work charity , activity centre.
