from slavs term passed other peoples, such hungarians (oláh, referring vlachs, more romanians, olasz, referring italians), turks ( ulahlar ) , byzantines ( Βλάχοι , vláhi ) , used latin people of balkans.


over time, term vlach (and different forms) acquired different meanings. ottoman turks in balkans commonly used term denote native balkan christians (possibly due cultural link between christianity , roman culture), , in parts of balkans term came denote shepherd – occupation of many of vlachs throughout central , eastern europe.
