formation , first ep (2008-2010)

lead singer brandon ellis , drummer peter kalinowski co-founded rocky loves emily. knew of each other in local music scene met first time while on tour different bands @ show somewhere in minnesota. kept in contact, , when former bands broke started rocky loves emily. 1 day pete kalinowski, stephen hull, , brandon ellis had lunch discussing band names. pete kalinowski , steve hull came band name. talking old 90 s movies remembered watching kids. remember steve saying, did guys ever see 3 ninjas, started chanting rocky loves emily , paused , said s it! s our band name! -peter kalinowski. taking name line in 1992 film 3 ninjas. debut ep entitled what released itunes in july of year. band spent next several months touring, notably playing acoustic shows @ hot topic stores, , finalist in alternative press s january 2010 hometown heroes competition.


signing , american dream ep (2010-2011)

in april 2010, band had day off in seattle , attended copeland s farewell tour, band encountered a&r executive tooth & nail records , ended giving him copy of ep. resulted in phone call month later , band s subsequent signing label. band recorded several demos on summer before being flown seattle record second ep, american dream, producer casey bates. signing officially announced in october, , ep released on november 22, preceded single clueless . after band toured heavily being gone more half of year on self-booked tours.


secrets don t make friends (2011-present)

the band performed @ 2011 sxsw music festival part of tooth & nail showcase included emery, almost, sainthood reps, swimming dolphins, , young london. following , tour freshman 15, brandon ellis announced band in process of writing first full-length album tooth & nail, stating step in new direction band...i feel lot of growing has happened in past year , expressed in new music. bottom line, cannot wait people hear this, ve never been more excited music in life. music video title track released on march 14. following that, second sxsw appearance part of hm magazine showcase, , 3 more singles (one of given exclusive release absolutepunk), album, secrets don t make friends, released on april 24, 2012.


also in april 2012, band toured sandlot heroes , new amsterdams. toured foxes month , joined phone calls home month , later in year, joined sparks rescue s surrender booty tour , closed out summer touring allstar weekend , honor society.


after break/hiatus band decided work on second full-length record. album, titled miserable love, released on june 22, 2016.
