in 2003, iowa began season 4-0 , complete regular season 9–3 record included wins on iowa state, michigan (iowa s second straight victory against michigan), , minnesota. however, hawkeyes lost michigan state, ohio state, , purdue. finishing fourth in big ten standings, hawkeyes accepted bid play florida gators in outback bowl. despite falling behind on 70-yard touchdown pass chris leak kelvin knight, hawkeyes reeled off 27 straight points en route 37–17 victory. milestone victory, gave iowa second consecutive 10-win season along first hawkeye victory in january bowl game since rose bowl in 1959.
