the 2014 american league wild card game took place on september 30, 2014 @ kauffman stadium in kansas city, missouri. oakland athletics took on kansas city royals. oakland went out lead after first inning 2-run homerun brandon moss, scoring coco crisp. kansas city responded in bottom half of inning, , trimmed oakland s lead 1 after billy butler single, scoring nori aoki. royals later took lead in 3rd inning, following 2 rbi singles lorenzo cain, , eric hosmer. in top of 6th inning, brandon moss hit second homerun of game, scored sam fuld , josh donaldson. followed rbi singles derek norris , coco crisp, making score 7-3 oakland after 6 innings. royals scored 3 more runs in bottom of 8th inning, making score 7-6. kansas city later tie game in bottom of 9th using documented small ball techniques, , scored aoki sacrifice fly, sending game innings. both teams remained scoreless until top of 12th, alberto callaspo scored josh reddick on single left field, put athletics 8-7. in bottom of 12th kansas city rallied back, , tied game on infield single, , later won game in walk-off fashion on salvador pérez single down 3rd base line. 2014 al wild card playoff game became longest game in history of mlb wild card. royals later continue hot streak, , found in 2014 world series, later lost san francisco giants.
