to assess tonsils, patient opens mouth , tongue blade used depress tongue. penlight used inspect of patient s throat, looking pink, symmetrical , normal-size tonsils. tonsil size graded follows:



1+ visible
2+ halfway between tonsillar pillars , uvula
3+ touching uvula
4+ touching each other

abnormal findings include bright-red, enlarged tonsils or white or yellow tonsillar exudate. tonsillitis inflammation of tonsils.
