the earthquake destroyed dozens of houses in shan state


early reports suggested @ least 10 people killed quake-triggered landslides in town of tachileik, including child, tarpin north, both in shan state, northeastern burma. person killed in mae sai, thailand, near burmese border. @ least 3 injuries reported in burma.


after sunrise, casualty toll increased 24 in burma, in addition 1 fatality in thailand. officials warned death toll rise. later, death toll rose 74 killed in burma , 1 in thailand, while 111 people injured. in tarlay, located between tachileik , mong hpyak, @ least 40 killed when 130 houses collapsed. vertical displacement of 1.5 metres in subsidence observed in area.


the bangkok post reported on 27 march 2011 death toll on 150 , double official figure of 75.
