newry town & watford

after playing shamrock rovers under-18 side @ age of 11, jennings concentrated on gaelic football until sixteen years old, when made soccer comeback hometown side newry town. after impressing team moved english third division side watford in may 1963. jennings again impressed in first season in england, playing every league game club, , making 2 international appearances season. signed tottenham hotspur £27,000 in june 1964.

jennings spent thirteen years @ white hart lane, played in 472 league games spurs, , 591 in competitions. won fa cup in 1967, league cup in 1971 , 1973, , uefa cup in 1972. scored once, in 1967 charity shield, own area, kicking ball hands , sending large punt down field bounced on manchester united goalkeeper alex stepney , net. in 1973 football writers association named him footballer of year. 3 years later won pfa s version of award – first goalkeeper receive accolade, , date remains 1 of two, along peter shilton.


arsenal

in august 1977, transferred tottenham s arch-rivals, arsenal, tottenham thinking nearing end of career. however, jennings saw off rivals goalkeeper s jersey play arsenal 8 years. whilst @ highbury, helped arsenal 4 cup finals in 3 successive years; fa cup final in 1978, 1979, , 1980, european cup winners cup final year. however, arsenal managed win second of these finals, 3–2 victory against manchester united. in total, jennings made 327 appearances arsenal, 237 of them in league, between 1977 , eventual retirement first-team club football in 1985. on 26 february 1983, became first player in english football make 1,000 senior appearances, celebrating milestone clean sheet in goalless league draw arsenal @ west bromwich albion.


post-retirement

after retirement, jennings returned tottenham hotspur, playing in reserve side maintain match sharpness northern ireland s 1986 world cup campaign. final appearance tottenham in super cup against liverpool in january 1986. briefly on everton s books, having been signed goalkeeping cover 1986 fa cup final against liverpool, neville southall having been injured playing wales.
