museum 2009–present

the new ars electronica center, designed treusch architecture zt gmbh, opened doors on 2 january 2009 after 2 years of construction work , approximate cost of 30 million euros. has 3000 square meters exhibitions, 100m2 research , development, 400m2 workshops , conferences, 650m2 catering , 1000m2 square meters of public space various types of events, e.g. red bull upside down on 12 february 2010.



ars electronica center in linz, austria eso outreach partner organisation.


the new aec consists of original building, new twin-tower , main exhibition hall called main gallery , new space ars electronica futurelab. whole building covered 5000 square meter glass skin consists of 1100 glass panels. each panel equipped led bar allows change color. therefore, whole building acts giant display. artists can create own visualisations shown on various occasions, during ars electronica festival.


the restaurant located on third floor of new building , called cubus, referring buildings s cubic shape.


museum exhibits

with new building came new thematic orientation inside of ars electronica. life sciences, global developments (e.g. climate change, population growth, environmental pollution) , exploration of universe view of various new topics. museum can separated following areas:


main gallery

main gallery approximately 1000 square meters houses main exhibition called new views of humankind , focuses on topics biotechnology, robotics, rapid prototyping , human body. separated following 4 so-called labs :



brain-lab: area focuses on human brain, perception , advances in medicine.
bio-lab: in lab, focus lies on biotechnology , applications.
fab-lab: lab. deals new possibilities offered 3d printers , rapid prototyping.
robo-lab: lab. deals robotica different prothetic systems.

main gallery contains special area children not thematically connected main exhibition.


geo city

geo city focuses on global developments caused humankind, growth in population , extraction of natural resources. global developments connected possible local reactions, visualized in interactive city information system called sim-linz.


artists, creators, engineers

this area temporary exhibitions consisting of first , second floor of original building , focuses on interdisciplinary aspects of ars electronica , contributors. detailed informations current , future exhibitions can found @ official web site.


deep space

the deep space multifunctional presentation room offers wide range of possibilities. consists of 2 walls (front , floor) dimensions of 16:9 meters serve screens 8 galaxy nh-12 projectors barco. range of projects ranges high-resolution videos scientific (3d) visualisations flight out solar system whole known universe , artistic projects. dates of special events involving deep space presentations can found @ official web site.
