john ward

originally sailor, john ward got married tom s mother, whom met in greece, bought farm money , settled down. dies during events of spook s secret. before death, tells story son how met mam, thomas mother. sailor on coast of greece , saw mam, naked, nailed hand rock , bound silver chain, die when sun came , shine on body. however, freed , protected her. after staying in home (unaware of being lamia whole life), came county settle down in farm, , had 7 sons. did not know @ first, mam marrying him have seventh son (when learnt himself seventh son wanted produce spook, inherit own powers lamia), later grew love him, hence why devastated @ death. john ward honourable man never tricked people, , kept word, being kind man.


jack ward

the eldest of 7 ward brothers, jack jovial , patronizing towards tom. later reveals underlying jealousy when bitterly tells tom d been mother s favourite. later turns greater , greater animosity @ each brush peculiarity or danger tom s job entails. goes shock when malkin witches abduct him. has black hair, blue , bushy eyebrows meet in middle.


ellie ward

ellie ward jack ward s wife @ end of spook s apprentice has baby girl called mary. captured , beaten in spooks battle, pendle witches take , baby in high towers , beat them, affects relation between , tom, gives mental stress. ellie supports tom still , thankful, nothing more fifteen conversations seen in entire series.


mary ward

the daughter of jack , ellie, born near ending of spook s apprentice.


james ward

initially blacksmith, moves in jack @ farm after events in spook s battle start making ale. nicer tom jack him. thought killed fiend s servants in spook s blood. later revealed survived. in spooks revenge tom asked him fight in final battle against fiend. managed survive battle. tom returns home few days later find grimalkin in yard. confirms james survived , made home.
