on 9 december 2002, indomitable transferred national oceanic , atmospheric administration (noaa). noaa converted oceanographic research ship. commissioned in noaa fleet noaas mcarthur ii (r 330) on 20 may 2003, replacing noaa survey ship noaas mcarthur (s 330), decommissioned same day in combined ceremony.

mcarthur ii has berthing 38 people in 18 single staterooms, 8 double staterooms, , 1 quadruple stateroom, providing capacity carry 15 scientists on domestic voyages or 14 scientists , united states public health service officer on international voyages. can seat 16 people @ time in crew s mess.


mcarthur ii has wet laboratory freezer, dry laboratory freezer, , oceanographic laboratory refrigerator. on deck, has 2.3-ton-capacity deck crane boom extends 46 feet (14 m), 2 oceanographic winches, movable a-frame, , movable j-frame. carries 1 24-foot (7.3 m) , 1 21-foot (6.4 m) zodiac rigid-hulled inflatable boats (rhib).
