in 1986 esther rantzen, presenter of s life!, popular consumer tv show, suggested bbc create childwatch , programme child abuse screened on 30 october 1986 on bbc1, aim being try detect children @ risk before lives in danger. viewers asked if take part in survey in edition of s life!. helpline opened after programme child suffering abuse call help. rantzen, bbc producers sarah caplin , ritchie cogan, therefore suggested should create helpline children in danger or distress, open throughout year, 24/7, , launch on programme. project made possible benefactor ian skipper underwrote charity first 3 years.


childline joined nspcc in february 2006, , resources pledged in attempt ensure no child s call goes unanswered.
