keelavalavu located in melur taluk of madurai district. located 11 kilometres (6.8 mi) melur. in 2011 census of india, had population of 5686, of 2847 males , 2839 females. village rich in granite , 1 of hubs illegal quarrying in district.

panchapandavar malai (hill of 5 pandavas) located in village on melur – tiruppattur road. hillock contains caves converted adobe jain monks lived here when religion flourished in ancient tamil country. hillock 1 of national monuments declared archaeological survey of india.


the cave contains 9 jain sculptures belonging 9th , 10th century ad, including sculptures of mahavira, last thirthankara , bahubali. contains tamil-brahmi , vatteluttu inscriptions. tamil-brahmi inscriptions in cave discovered venkoba rao in 1903. inscriptions engraved right left , upside-down. kind of inscription found here , in kundrakudi hill. there stone beds in caves used jain monks rest. inscription in cave mentions these stone beds sculptured person thondi.
