the nicolls building named in honour of reverend jasper hume nicolls (1818–1877). in 1845, nicolls appointed first principal of bishop s college. raised in city of québec , graduated bachelor of arts oriel college in university of oxford. fellow of queen s college, oxford when appointed position here. in 1853, along bishop mountain, instrumental in obtaining royal charter raised college status of university.
