districts (郡, gun) administrative units in use between 1878 , 1921 equivalent counties of china or united states. in 1920s, municipal functions transferred district offices offices of towns , villages within district. district names remain in postal address of towns , villages, , districts used boundaries electoral districts, otherwise serve no official function. classical chinese character derived means commandery.
