after announcement of referendum result, ssp amongst political parties reported significant increases in size of membership. of 23 september, more 2,100 people had joined party since referendum result declared. result, new branches established across country.


when make-up of smith commission announced, colin fox protested decision uniquely exclude ssp proceedings. wrote smith commission: argument use justify our exclusion on grounds have no parliamentary representation fails appreciate referendum not parliamentary process unprecedented public debate resulted in extraordinary level of engagement sections of society. exclude ssp exclude important constituency of opinion in scottish society.


the ssp s 2014 national conference took place in edinburgh on 25 october , party reported had been better attended preceding several years , membership had trebled during weeks following referendum. first ssp conference streamed live on internet.
