in 4 days, 7 december, soviet troops succeeded take front positions of finnish troops making hard 12th battalion keep positions in Änänkäinen region. same day finns destroyed big soviet patrol , learned, soviet infantry regiment 529 cover southern side of attacking soviet division 54, go kuhmo. reinforced 529th regiment consisted of 6,000 soldiers added 40 cannons , 20 tanks. idea had been occupy lieksa in independence day of finland , go nurmes 10th, december , towards kajaani. main target oulu on west coast of finland cut country 2 halves.


on 8 december 13 separate battalion allowed withdraw Änäkäinen nurmijärvi through puuruu positions. delaying week soviet troops in front of Änäkäinen provided time building new positions in puuruu.
