nomenclature
the metric system in netherlands has virtually same nomenclature in english, except:
the -er spelling used (e.g. kilometer),
there no plural form (e.g. 3 metres expressed drie meter ),
tonne ton in dutch,
a few metric measurements unfamiliar english speakers used refer property measurements (e.g. , centiare).
standards
on 30 october 2006 weights , measures act replaced metrology act. organisation responsible weights , measures in netherlands private company called nederlands meetinstituut (nmi). literally, means dutch institute of measures , organisation uses dutch name in english. company created in 1989 when metrology service (dienst van het ijkwezen) privatised. @ first sole shareholder dutch government, in 2001 sole shareholder became tno bedrijven, holding company tno, dutch organisation applied scientific research.
