the game set in fictional country named new asian union (nau) in year 2071 world has been destroyed mysterious monsters known aragami. organization known fenrir founded exterminate aragami using weapons called god arcs made cells of aragami. specialize in exterminating aragami known god eaters. god eaters had 1 type in god arcs can keep gun form or blade form, new type has been discovered can switch between gun , blade form. since then, have been classified new-types , previous old-types.

story

god eater begins protagonist joining fenrir far east branch alongside kota after discovering protagonist new-type god eater. 2 assigned under rindo, leader of first unit, in advises them not die , run when needed. meets more members of first unit; sakuya , soma along instructor, tsubaki. dr. paylor sakaki teaches new recruits aragami, , initiative expanding arcology of far east branch known aegis project. after, second new-type god eater russia named alisa joins first unit. during mission, herd of aragami ambush them causes alisa experience psychological episode , accidentally trap rindo. rest of first unit able escape, rindo left behind. after returned base, alisa treated episodes , temporarily removed combat duty. protagonist visits alisa when asleep , discovers ability known resonance s/he can see ones memories making physical contact. revealed episodes due childhood trauma of watching parents eaten aragami , fact hypnotized therapist. protagonist retrains alisa proper way of fighting, leading able returned front lines again. meanwhile, sakuya, after grieving missing rindo, finds secret message him inaccessible without rindo s armlet.

after rindo has been declared missing in action/discharged, protagonist promoted new leader of first unit director of fenrir far east branch, johannes, uses them in top secret missions looking entity known singularity. sakaki, aware of director s intentions, deceives him searching singularity in europe after telling him mysterious aragami appeared there. sakaki placed in command of fenrir far east branch temporarily until director returned. sakaki uses time send protagonist , other members of first unit secret mission leads discovery of human-like aragami named shio. keep shio secret director , teach how human, first unit sent search rindo s armlet after reports of armlet sending off signals. after retrieving armlet, sakuya discovers rindo secretly investigating johannes secret project, called ark project. sakuya , alisa s further investigation ark project led them aegis island aegis project held. director johannes caught 2 , reveals them aegis project ruse ark project. ark project s goal awaken apocalyptic aragami known nova destroy life on earth , saving chosen 1000 sending them outer space in arks. alongside johannes, alisa s therapist attempts hypnotize alisa fighting sakuya, however, overcomes , 2 escape.

the 2 manage make contact protagonist , rest of first unit inform them of ark project , decide whether ll support ark project or not. kota decides support ark project protect family. when invitation join ark project given protagonist director, protagonist prolongs answer. protagonist decides checks on sakaki , shio, power outage devised director occurred. director discovered sakaki holding shio, singularity, , takes force. alisa , sakuya rejoin members of first unit after discovering ark project close completion. kota, after discovering shio missing, decides others , discovered secret route enter aegis island. group reach aegis island retrieve shio arrive late. director had extracted shio s core , placed within nova. director johannes fuses aragami in efforts stopping team stopping nova s awakening. team defeats johannes nova has begun awaken. director johannes urges team go ark before it’s late , never going enter ark. group dismayed failing, shio miraculously awaken , decides take nova moon in order protect planet. shio gives farewell team , departs.

gods eater burst continues story 3 months after. first unit encounter new-type aragami leaves protagonist s god arc damaged. upon getting god arc repaired, far east branch has been infiltrated aragami. protagonist finds opportunity use rindo s god arc warned licca, engineer, impossible wield else s god arc god arc reject foreign god eater. protagonist attempts wield regardless of warning , experience resonance through rindo s god arc, revealing rindo still alive. before falling unconscious, protagonist saved aragami new god eater. god eater introduces rin used work rindo. protagonist informs sakaki , tsubaki of rindo s whereabouts, causing them reopen search rindo. rin explains protagonist once god eater has lost armlet turn aragami , can killed own god arc. during search rindo, protagonist reencounters new-type aragami. protagonist experiences resonance new-type revealing rindo. protagonist decides face rindo alone in aegis island rest of first unit discover intentions , join him in effort rescuing rindo. rin joins , offers rindo s god arc protagonist may defeat rindo. protagonist quotes rindo s order not die , uses resonance enter rindo s mind rin , free him aragami. during battle within aragami, rin reveals projection of rindo s god arc , sacrifices himself defeat aragami. once defeated, rindo returns human form , returns far east branch. time passed , rindo had married sakuya , training new-type god eaters.

god eater resurrection adds additional story arc after events of burst. new aragami, remnant of nova, arius nova has appeared, having devoured various type of bias factor until discovered monster became highly resistant against god arcs due them not being satisfied taste of arius nova, having similar components of outer wall of fenrir s far east branch. led eventual fight between first unit team, ended in victory discovered aragami wasn t dead, rather faking , escaping afterwards. after of 3 units began search arius nova anew, leading encounter in first unit team (protagonist, soma, alisa, kota) defeated seemingly stronger arius nova, @ 1 point aragami finish off protagonist arrival of aragami looking shio first story arc stopped happening. after battle protagonist tasked defeated specific monsters purge arius nova bias factor cells his/hers injured comrades, via materials collected slain monsters, being notified other members , fenrir of sightings of white 10 year old looking female (shio) throughout various locations during chain of quests. after comrades recovered professor sakaki , licca come theory on how beat arius nova involves fighting new type of various aragami, didn t appear in game far, , old stronger ones classified dreadnought class, collect core, these rare aragami have been powered pieces of nova, , extremely lethal, re rare , if god arcs devour them might have chance against arius nova. during hunt on dreadnought class aragami team encounters various apparitions of shio, , resonance ability see various events happened before , during god eater story arc. after encounter newly discovered blitz hannibal 1st unit informed of dreadnought class aragami, rush right after mission, nova arrives there first baits set sakuya , rindo didn t distract dreadnoughts, killing aragami , devouring core, retreating. report of kota, shot aragami after devoured core found out due new bias factor introduced system small amount of time arius nova vulnerable. licca constructs every dreadnought core had 1 , on night of full moon, closest earth in last 18 years final fight begins arius nova, in every member of 1st unit participates (in cutscenes, not mission itself, usual limited 4) including sakuya , rindo, defeating arius nova , saying final goodbyes shio. of rare occasions main protagonist speaks, first directing how team should proceed final attack , thanking shio. shio disappears, since still on moon, thanking them memories in epilogue.
