ian mcclelland graduated northern alberta institute of technology in 1965, member of first graduating class in photographic technology. in 1975, started colorfast corporation, grew under management , ownership become largest independent photofinisher in western canada. @ peak, company had twenty 7 retail outlets, 3 manufacturing facilities , serviced 5 hundred retail outlets in western canada. mcclelland sold business employee, when stood candidate in 1993 federal election. in 1992, mcclelland honoured distinguished friend of institute northern alberta institute of technology.


federal politics

mcclelland elected in edmonton southwest electoral district under reform party in 1993 , 1997 federal elections, serving in 35th , 36th canadian parliaments. served deputy speaker in 36th parliament, , first member of official opposition appointed. in 2000, mcclelland announced not seek third term, , did not stand re-election in 2000 federal election.

in 2001, mcclelland elected alberta legislature in edmonton-rutherford riding. in 2004, after serving term in 25th alberta legislative assembly, mcclelland defeated in riding liberal rick miller.

in december 2006, ian mcclelland appointed director of northlands in edmonton, being 1 of 2 directors representing government of canada, specified in articles of association of northlands. mcclelland cited in part follows: through careers in government , photofinishing industry, mr. mcclelland has shown dedication , commitment serving province of alberta. northlands has operated non-profit organization in edmonton since 1879, , principal organizer of events in city, including edmonton exhibition (capital ex) , numerous trade shows.
