historical marker tells of 1916 fire.


in 1789 roscoe called westfield flats. home of delaware indians, wolves roamed freely.


roscoe, of catskills, part of hardenbergh patent in 18th century in turn purchased last lord of manor of livingston manor, robert livingston. first settlers brothers bought area around roscoe livingston s son jonathan livingston. stewart street 1 of community s main streets.


on november 19, 1916 devastating fire destroyed 23 buildings in town, along stewart avenue. on 100 firefighters came livingston manor , liberty control flames, after firefighters lost water pressure unable much. fortunately presbyterian church spared.


during construction of new york state route 17 (southern tier expressway), section near roscoe 1 of last completed, requiring travelers exit onto local truck roads several miles.


the dundas castle , roscoe presbyterian church , westfield flats cemetery listed on national register of historic places.
