on 6 august 1950, warramunga sailed join united nations forces involved in korean war. of ship s first tour consisted of patrols , shore bombardments. in february 1951, warramunga , u.s. navy destroyer uss wallace l. lind sent recover intelligence party. en route, learned party had been captured north koreans, had set extraction capture recovery party, , when 2 destroyers received light signal, shelled area , killed north koreans. during may , june, destroyer underwent repairs gale damage. on 6 september, returned sydney , docked refit.


on 11 january 1952, warramunga sailed second korean war tour. during second tour, concluded on 12 august, ship operated on coastal patrols, , fired 4,151 4.7-inch shells. sixth battle honour, korea 1950–52 awarded destroyer recognise these deployments. on 12 november, destroyer docked conversion anti-submarine destroyer, including replacement of aft gun turret squid mortar.
