transgender youth in china face many challenges. 1 study found chinese parents report 0.5% (1:200) of 6 12-year boys , 0.6% (1:167) of girls or ‘state wish other gender’. 0.8% (1.125) of 18- 24-year-old university students birth-assigned males (whose sex/gender indicated on id card male) report ‘sex/gender feel in heart’ female, while 0.4% indicating perceived gender ‘other’. among birth-assigned females, 2.9% (1:34) indicated perceived gender male, while 1.3% indicating ‘other’.
one transgender man recounts childhood 1 filled confusion , peer bullying. in school mocked being tomboy , regularly disciplined teachers displaying rowdy boy-like behavior. recommended parents institutionalized.
